It was known as the Black Hawk Division, which is represented in the insignia.
"Black Hawk" Division. The Black Hawk Indians once inhabited the region many of the draftees came from.
National Army Division established by the War Department on 5 August 1917 to be established at Camp Grant, IL. Draftees were from Illinois and Wisconsin. Movement overseas commenced on 18 August 1918 and was completed by 9 October 1918. On 3 October 1918, the division was ordered to be skeletonized.
