The insignia was originally adopted for marking property and baggage while in the United States.


Nickname

"Lincoln" Division.

Background

National Army Division established by the War Department on 5 August 1917 to be established at Camp Taylor, KY.  Draftees were from Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.  Movement overseas commenced on 20 August 1918 and was completed by 25 October 1918.  On 3 October 1918, the division was ordered to be skeletonized.
