The insignia consists of the letters of Ohio in monogram.
"Ohio" Division.
National Army Division established by the War Department on 5 August 1917 to be established at Camp Sherman, OH. Draftees were from Ohio and Pennsylvania. Movement overseas commenced on 24 May 1918 and was completed by 28 June 1918. On 27 June 1918, the 83d Division was designated as the 2d Depot Division. The 332d Infantry, 158th Artillery Brigade, 308th Ammunition Train, 308th Engineers, 308th Field Signal Battalion, 308th Trench Mortar Battery and 308th Sanitary Train are detached and function as army and corps units.
