The letters stand for All American, the name by which the division was known. These letters are in gold for officers and white for enlisted men.
"All American" Division.
National Army Division established by the War Department on 5 August 1917 to be established at Camp Gordon, GA. Draftees were from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. Movement overseas commenced on 10 April 1918 and was completed by 10 July 1918.
