It was known as the Sunset Division, and its members wore as their distinguishing device a sun setting over the blue waters of the Pacific.
"Sunset" Division.
On 18 July 1917, the War Department designated National Guard troops of Colorado, the District of Columbia, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington and Wyoming to form the 41st Division. In August, 1917, units begin to arrive at Camp Greene, NC, for training, but on 22 October 1917, the division moved to Camp Mills, NY. On 26 November 1917, the division began overseas movement, which was completed by 6 February 1918. However, on 8 December 1917, the division had been designated as the Replacement Division, I Corps.
