The divisional insignia is the letter "T," for Texas, superimposed on an Indian arrow-head, for Oklahoma (not long ago the Indian Territory).


Nickname

"Lone Star" Division.

Background

On 18 July 1917 Texas and Oklahoma National Guard troops were directed to form the 36th Division.  The Division began concentration at Camp Bowie, TX, on 17 August 1917.  Movement overseas was commenced on 8 July 1918 and was completed by 12 August 1918.
